Poached Pear
Ingredients:
- 4 cups water
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 vanilla bean, split
- 2 slices orange peel
- 4 Bosc Pears, peeled, cored, halved
Directions:
- In a large sauce pan, combine the water, sugar, vanilla bean, spices, and orange peel until sugar is dissolved.
- Add pears. Cover with parchment paper to keep submerged.
- Bring to a simmer and cook pears for around 15-25 minutes, until a pairing knife is met with no resistance.
- Remove pears with a slotted spoon and allow to cool.
- Continue to cook the poaching liquid over medium-high heat until it is reduced by half and becomes syrupy.
- Serve pears with vanilla icecream and a drizzle of the syrup.
