It is officially Christmas! Crack out the champagne, baked brie, and the hot popovers. While I am always sentimental for a New England Christmas, I heard it is almost 70 degrees there! This year, I thought I would share a few of my family's favorite traditions and things I have been liking as of late. Have a read when you need a little break from the festivities. Hope you have the merriest of Christmases!
1. Pomander Balls
A very old fashioned tradition of pushing cloves into oranges, these have the most incredible smell. They make for pretty decoration or they can be used in a wardrobe like a sachet. I have been making these since I was a kid.
2. My version of a Christmas Jumper
Every year, Wildfox puts out a selection of holiday collection. Last Christmas, I had a Christmas Eve Checklist sweatshirt, this year's is just as fun. These are the softest sweatshirts ever!
Our house is filled with candles this time of year. I usually get the Nest Fragrances Birchwood Pine candle or Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir candle, but I decided to try something new. I could not pass up the beautifully etched container by Maison Francis Kurkdijian, the legendary perfumer behind many famous fragrances. His candle pays tribute to the balsam tree, but also has a soft sweet scent.
4. Cozy Layers
Now is time to break out your coziest layers. Come Christmas morning, I am in some knit joggers, a cashmere sweater, and my newest addition: some cashmere socks. Because, lets be honest, loungewear isn't the same without some cashmere.
What's Christmas without a little mistletoe? Crushed velvet ribbon preferred.
I never fuss too much over wrapping, but this year I went all out. I picked up some beautiful pale gold wrapping paper, gray and white stripes, and the most beautiful glittery handmade paper. I love adding satin and velvet ribbons, vintage ornaments and a spring of fresh cut narcissus.
7. Winter Wonderland
It's not truly christmas without snow. Wishing I was here.
8. Morning Skincare
Just because it's Christmas morning doesn't mean you have to abandon your skincare routine. I know that I definitely don't feel like putting makeup on. I have been a longtime fan of African Botanics. They use natural, nontoxic ingredients based around the powerful Marula Oil. Harvested from South Africa, it heals and rejuvenates skin with its antioxidants and vitamins. Lately I have been using their Cleansing oil followed by there Marula Oil, and my skin feels so soft. I have also been using the Marula Botanical Hand Cream when hands are feeling a bit dry.
9. Holiday Movies
I know there are so many great new Christmas movies (I do love a bit of Home Alone myself) but I am very sentimental for the traditional old ones. Every year we watch White Christmas, Holiday Inn, and Desk Set. They are must-see's!
10. Grown Up Milk & Cookies
I know tradition says Santa likes milk and cookies, but I decided to upgrade this year with a single malt scotch and some homemade toffee. I don't think he will mind.
